  • Do Ascertain If You Are Sending Commercial Messages To Or From Canada
  • Do Understand That CASL Covers Email, SMS, MMS, TXT And All Social Media Messaging Platforms
  • Do Take Advantage Of The 3 Year Transition Period To Obtain Express Consent
  • Do Maintain A Database Of Your Commercial Message Contacts, And
  • Do Keep Records Of When, Why, How And What Kind Of Consent Was Obtained
  • Do Ensure All Commercial Messages Contain Proper Identification
  • Do Ensure All Commercial Messages Contain An Easy To Use, Functioning  «unsubscribe»
  • Do Ensure You Have Consent Specifically To Install A Computer Program
  • Do Seek Out Answers When You Are Not Sure

 

Don'ts:

  • Don't Press Send Unless You Are Sure!
  • Don't Send An Electronic Message To Obtain Consent
  • Don't Assume All Your Messages Are Commercial In Nature
  • Don't Send Commercial Messages Where Implied Or Express Consent Has Not Been Obtained
  • Don't Use Publicly Available Email Addresses Unless They Are Conspicuously Published And Your Commercial Message Relates To The Recipecient's Role In Their Organization
  • Don't Forget To Remove Addresses Within 10 Days Where An Unsubscribe Has Been Received
  • Don't Forget To Identify The Sender Or On Whose Behalf The Commercial Message Is Sent
  • Don't Forget You Need An Exemption To Not Seek Consent Or Include An Unsubcribe Function
  • Don't Try To Use A Charity Exemption For Non-registered Charities
  • Don't Combine Fundraising and/or Information With Marketing In One Message & Fail To Obtain Consent
  • Don't Mislead The Recipient With False Sender Or Subject Information
  • Don't Harvest Email Addresses From Websites Or Use Personal Information For Unauthorized Purposes
